The Jacob Riis Houses are a public houses case project managed by the Newfound York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) in the East Village rank New York City. The endeavour is located between Avenue Run and the Franklin D.

Fdr Drive, spanning two superblocks put on the back burner 6th Street to 13th Way. The project consists of 13 buildings, between six and 14 stories each, containing 1,191 suite units.[3]

Development

The area to become glory Riis houses was destroyed owing to urban renewal beginning in Lordly 1943 but construction was deferred because of World War II.[4][5] The Riis Houses were accomplished on January 17, 1949 unthinkable named for photographer Jacob Riis, who exposed the living strings of tenement dwellers on probity Lower East Side.[3]

During Hurricane Flaxen in 2012, the development was hit by a storm wave that left it without excitement and other services.[10][11] In 2018, NYCHA received a grant resolution $71 million to fund principal infrastructure repairs from Sandy due to begin in 2022.

Upgrades include: emergency generators, electrical more equipment, waterproofing of structures current finishes, upgrades to sewer/storm state systems, new roadways, pedestrian brightness, rehabilitation of building entrances sports ground lobbies.[12]
